[ID] Obongzip 오봉집 @ Senopati, Jakarta

There is never a shortage of new restaurants opening in Senopati, but when a well-known Korean dining concept arrives, it is certainly worth paying attention to. The latest addition is Obongzip 오봉집, a new Korean restaurant that has recently opened its doors in the heart of Jakarta’s dining district.

Known for its bold Korean flavors and lively sharing-style dishes, Obongjip 오봉집 enters a neighborhood already packed with Korean restaurants—which naturally raises one important question: is it worth the visit?

Unlike the many Korean barbecue restaurants that dominate Jakarta’s dining scene, Obongzip 오봉집 takes a different approach, focusing on hearty Korean comfort food designed for sharing. The menu is centered around its signature fire-grilled spicy octopus, tender pork belly bossam, and refreshing makguksu—cold buckwheat noodles that provide the perfect balance to the restaurant’s bold and spicy flavors.

Spicy Octopus

The spicy octopus is probably the dish that best captures the personality of Obongzip. The octopus has a satisfying chew without becoming rubbery, while the sauce delivers a deep, savory heat rather than just relying on chili for spiciness. It is bold, slightly smoky and quite addictive, especially when eaten with rice. The portion is also generous enough to make this a natural centerpiece for the table.

Bossam

The bossam 보쌈 provides a welcome contrast to the intensity of the octopus. The pork belly is tender and nicely seasoned, with enough richness to make each bite satisfying without feeling excessively heavy. Wrapped with the accompanying vegetables and condiments, it becomes a lovely combination of savory, fresh and slightly tangy flavors. For me, this is the dish that brings balance to the meal.

Makguksu

The makguksu 막국수 is the refreshing counterpoint that ties everything together. The buckwheat noodles have a pleasant, slightly nutty texture, while the chilled preparation gives the palate a much-needed reset after the spicy octopus and rich bossam. It is simple, clean and refreshing—and perhaps not the most dramatic dish on the table, but an essential one to order alongside the heavier dishes.

Others

Ban chan was simple yet had all the right elements for spicy dishes. In particular, we enjoyed the odeng 오뎅 and kongnamul 콩나물.

We also ordered gimgaru gonggibab 김가루공기밥 (rice with shredded seaweed) and mixed the rice with chunks of spicy octopus and the sauce. This is another big favorite for Koreans and having it made us feel like we were back home.

Final thoughts

Must visit especially during the early stage of opening because taste is still very original. As time goes by, most Korean branches end up adjusting their taste. We loved the savory and spicy sauce of their spicy octopus; soft and tender texture of their bossam and rich flavors from their makguksu. Order the following

  • Obongzip Special (Combination of spicy octopus, bossam and makguksu)
  • Gimgaru gonggimbab 김가루공기밥
