Myeongdong Kyoja (or Gyoza) is a Michelin-starred restaurant at the heart of Myeongdong 명동. The shop only specializes in three (four including seasonal menu) menus: Kalguksu 칼국수 (handmade noodle soup), Mandu 만두 (dumplings), Bibimguksu 비빔국수 (spicy wheat noodle) and Kongguksu 콩국수 (bean noodles available in summer season only). Given the title as one of the most affordable Michelin guide shops, the shop is high on demand. Make sure you plan your schedule in advance because there could be some long waiting time.
The Kalguksu 칼국수 is decent in portion with mini dumplings inside. The soup is incredibly thick and deep with fire taste coming from the veggies. The taste is pretty complex but cool. Mandu 만두 is irresistible and has a super-savory taste to each bite. As the name of the establishment says, it’s definitely a dumpling shop! If I had to choose between the two dishes, I would not hesitate to choose the mandu 만두.
