[ID] KIMU RAMEN (UBUD) @ Ubud, Bali

Kimu Ramen is a petite noodle shop with 10 seats (4 in the form of table and 6 counter seats). They have one chef, one assistant, one wok and one rice cooker. Kimu sells only three menus – Kimu ramen, chicken karaage, and fried/ plain rice. However because they only have one wok, order process time is very long.

Their flagship Kimu Ramen was a 100% copycat version of Korean Jjamppong 짬뽕. It was actually very surprising and unexpected to even have the chance to get Jjamppong 짬뽕 in Bali. When asked the question of copycatting the Korean Jjamppong 짬뽕, the chef and the server had no idea what Jjamppong 짬뽕 was. I don’t think they tried the Japanese ramen, neither.

Moving on to the next menu, Karaage was very much home-cooked fried chicken tenders. In fact, they were not too bad. You can literally feel that this was home cooked (and it’s actually good). Think of it as amateur chefs trying to sell their gigs. However, I don’t think they were marinated in soy sauce (which is supposed to be the correct way). Fried rice was a copycat version of Din Tai Fung’s egg friend rice. Lots of MSG dancing with my tastebuds, but easily flammable experience.

Overall, we liked it and would revisit for the hangover Jjamppong 짬뽕 soup.

What to order?

  • Everything (Kimu ramen, karaage, egg fried rice)
