We were roaming around Suwon and stopped by Ebadom Gamjatang Haejangguk 이바돔 감자탕 해장국. We specifically came in for the Gam Ja Tang 감자탕. So, what is Gam Ja Tang 감자탕?
Gamja-tang 감자탕 or pork back-bone stew is a spicy Korean soup made from the spine or neck bones of a pig. It often contains potatoes, cellophane noodles, greens, perilla leaves, green onions, hot peppers and ground perilla seeds. The vertebrae are usually separated with bits of meat clinging to them. In simple terms, Gam Ja Tang 감자탕 is a spicy soup based out of pork meat.

So, the first impression was that the Muk Eun Ji Gam Ja Tang 묵은지감자탕 didn’t look anything like the image on the menu. In fact, I would say they are two different menus. The soup was milky and deep – which sent warm signals to my inside. Meat chunks were bulky and fat. Kimchi was not overly fermented compared to what I expected. Overall, not bad but not the best experience. However, the servers were very helpful and they were generous enough to give us free fried rice 🙂 Two thumbs up!
So what should you get?
