As a big fan of Jokbal 족발, I quickly searched the Suwon 수원 area for my favorite menu. After a brief sweep, Hang Ah Ri Bossam 항아리보쌈 emerged as a strong candidate. The shop was not too far from where we stayed and had some good reviews which prompted me to head there.

The owner of this franchise is Mr. Park Kyungkyu 박경규 and he (and his restaurant) became famous after he went on a TV show (Master of Bossam 보쌈의 달인; SBS) in 2012. This was one of the key reasons (or maybe the only big reason) why we chose the shop in the first place.
It didn’t take too long before our excitement turned sour. The restaurant seemed to have fallen into a time trap – the interior visual seems to advocate the 90s. The same went for the food. We ordered the mix platter so that we could get the best of both worlds – Jokbal 족발 and Bossam 보쌈. My favorite – Jokbal 족발 – was so dry, and the seasoning didn’t penetrate the meat deep enough. Bossam 보쌈 was ok, but I think 50% of the meat was fat (as illustrated in the pic). The peripheral supporters were just your average. I’ve had better.
What do we recommend?
- Sorry, nothing.
