A Michelin guide restaurant
Nampo Myeonok 남포면옥 is a traditional Korean restaurant located at the back alley of the bustly downtown Seoul. They specialize in Pyeongyang cold buckwheat noodles 평양냉면 and galbitang 갈비탕. The shop showcases a traditional hanok 한옥 type of interior, which feels old and original. Nampo is featured in the Michelin guide.

The food
We started off with the bindaedduk 빈대떡 and Jaengban Mandu 쟁반만두. Bindaedduk was fat but a bit shy in terms of protein contents. I would assume the cost is a big issue at restaurants in Seoul. Mandu was steamed and small to consume in one go, but too small to fully enjoy. Galbitang 갈비탕 was boiling hot (literally) and had plenty of meat inside. The soup was clear but extremely deep – just perfect during autumn/winter season. You might want to add a sprinkle of pepper into the soup and the dish is perfect.

The conclusion
Nampo can never go wrong for casual dining with friends and colleagues. However, I would find it quite challenging if the occasion was a business setting. There are private rooms whereby you have to take off your shoes. When at Nampo, try out the…
